Three arrested for kilo of cannabis

Three men were arrested in connection with the find of a kilo of cannabis, in possession of a biker who was stopped by the drug squad in Nicosia, police said Monday.

“Three persons were arrested the last few hours in Nicosia, to help inquiries into an ongoing investigation into a case of illegal possession of an amount of cannabis weighing about one kilo.”

Police said that around 4.30pm on Sunday members of the drug squad stopped a motorcycle on a Nicosia road, driven by a 27-year-old man. The cannabis was found in his possession and he was arrested.

“A little earlier, the 27-year-old was seen talking to two persons in a car, who as soon as they realised the presence of the police, fled the scene.”

Inquiries revealed that two Nicosia residents, aged 31 and 23, had been in the car and they were later taken into custody.

Police said that, in searches carried out at the young men’s homes, a number of items were confiscated as evidence and sent for forensic tests.

Nicosia drug squad are continuing investigations.
