A 48-year-old father of three was killed on Tuesday morning when a passing car crashed into his parked van and he was pinned between the two vehicles in the Lapatsa area near Deftera, Nicosia, while the victim had been unloading merchandise.

The man, Yiannos Hadjiyiannis, had been unloading his van, which was parked outside a house in Costa Mishaouli street, located between Tseri and Deftera, when a car, driven by a 20-year-old, crashed into it, pinning him between the two cars.

An ambulance rushed Hadjiyiannis to the Nicosia general’s emergency room, but he was soon pronounced dead.

The 20-year-old was arrested and detained.

Nicosia traffic police continue to investigate the precise conditions under which the man lost his life.
