Russians seeking to form their own party

There are even Russian grocery stores to serve Cyprus’ growing Russian community

Russians living in Cyprus filed for the creation of a political party earlier in the month, it was reported on Wednesday.

According to Reporter Cyprus news portal, a group of Russians filed around ten days ago an application to the interior ministry to establish a political party.

The application was filed by Russian businessmen who have been living on the island for several years and have acquired Cypriot citizenship, the news portal said.

Citing sources, it said that the group estimates that they will garner the support of the Russians with Cypriot passports but also of Cypriots, as many locals have welcomed the prospect of the new party.

The interior ministry was not immediately available to confirm the report.
