Tourists arrested after not paying duty on cigarettes

Police on Thursday arrested two tourists who arrived at Larnaca airport with 150 cartons of cigarettes for which they hadn’t paid tax.

The two people, a 36-year-old man and a 21-year-old woman, arrived at the airport at 11pm on Wednesday.

Under circumstances as yet unknown they left without paying the customs duties.

After investigations police found they were staying at a hotel in Protaras.

Arrest warrants were issued against both of them and they were arrested early on Thursday morning.

The room they were staying in was searched but nothing incriminating was found.
