Restaurant review: Drifters Bar & Grill, Limassol

Summer weather is officially upon us – which is usually followed by a craving for light and airy salads and refreshing meals. However, this isn’t that kind of review. Comfort food was on the menu and what better way to enjoy these refreshingly cool nights with the sea breeze washing over before the summer heat hits than with a visit at the Drifters Bar & Grill in Limassol.

Located deep in the tourist area, it is ideal to take in the nightlife while you are quite able to turn your back on it too – near but not obtrusively so. Drifters is your conventional ‘bar & grill’ type of restaurant. It has an imposing bar just inside the restaurant making it the perfect place to enjoy a beverage along with a variety of bar snacks that include nachos, meat platters etc.

The décor is fairly simple and pleasant. Wood is the central theme and creates a comfortable and cosy environment all-year round. You also have the option of sitting outside and enjoying the sea breeze from across the road and witnessing the hustle and bustle of a busy city.

The menu is has a variety of dishes that will cater to all tastes but with heavy emphasis on burgers and Mexican dishes. Thus, the menu – aside from the starters – consists of a choice of tortillas, salads, pasta and juicy burgers, so really there is a dish for everyone.

The most important thing I can say about Drifters is that for me – taste being in the proverbial eye of the beholder – is that it has, hands down, the best burgers in Limassol. When I get the burger craving this is my go to place. With a wide range of burgers, it is guaranteed to appease all tastes, even those like me who like their burgers on the spicy side. I go for the El Fuego burger, but those with an appetite should chose the Texas – with a second patty and an egg on top. My portion was more than enough, and definitely value for your money. Served on a large, cutting board platter, the patty and the bun are not for the faint of heart and those who watch their waistline. With every bite, there is a burst of flavour, as the patty almost melts in your mouth. And burgers are on offer every Friday, so choose your dining day wisely.

If your stomach can stand it, there is also a wide range of starters that include garlic bread, cheese fingers, potato skins, buffalo wings etc – the combo platters are really your best option for a starter. You have a choice of the Texas, German, Los Amigos and Drifters platter to mention a few. We tried out the Los Amihos platter and did not regret the choice. The platter was had quesadillas, chili con carne, chimichangas, chicken enchilada with guacamole, sour cream and pico de gallo on the side. The platter itself could be considered a main course as it was deliciously filling.

Drifters Bar & Grill has a lot to offer. With a menu that covers a variety of cuisines and taste-buds and prices that are affordable, you are in for a pleasant meal. If you also happen to be planning a night out on a Monday, be sure to catch the live acoustic performers that sing English and Greek rock. The music complements the food perfectly.
