More than 40 brands of beer and a rich artistic programme will be on offer at this year’s Nicosia Beer Fest, the capital’s largest organised event, between June 14 – 17.
Nicosia mayor Constantinos Yiorkadjis said on Monday that the festival is one of Nicosia’s most important events, visited by thousands of people every year.
“Through this event, the organisers aim to further revitalise the centre of the capital, provide quality entertainment and attract local and foreign visitors.”
Around 24,000 attended last year’s festival and more than 20,000 people are expected this year, he said.
More than 40 different beers and a wide selection of food will be available, plus a packed entertainment programme featuring Greek singers and local bands.
The programme starts on Wednesday with a seven-member rebetiko fusion Greek band from Athens, Imam Baildi. Toni Sfinos follows on June 15 and singer Giorgos Papadopoulos on June 16.
On Saturday, the famous Greek singer Elli Kokkinou will perform.
Other highlights are local bands Railways (June 14), Black Out (June 16) and Black & White (June 17).
The festival is held just outside the walls of the old city in Constanza moat from 7pm till midnight. Tickets cost €6 including one free beer.
