Celebrate International Yoga Day in Platres

For the third consecutive year, International Yoga Day will be celebrated in Cyprus on June 21 and this year the High Commission of India in collaboration with the Platres municipality is organising a free yoga session at the Platres athletic sport centre.

The programme will begin at 7pm with an introduction by High Commissioner of India to Cyprus Shri Ravi Bangar and continue until 9pm with a yoga session by yoga teacher Manshu Agrey who will be flown in especially from India for the celebrations.

There are two reasons why June 21 was chosen as International Yoga Day. It is the day of the summer solstice, the longest day of the year with the sun rising early and setting late for the northern hemisphere, which many countries around the world mark with festivities. June 21 is also considered an important day in Indian mythology, where it is considered the start of yogic science.

Participation in the event is free and participants will receive a yoga mat, a T-shirt and some yoga books.
