Two arrested in connection with car theft, drugs, illegal immigration

Two men were arrested in Larnaca in connection with a car theft, illegal immigration and the possession of drugs on Thursday afternoon.

During routine inspections police officers stopped a car driven by a 21-year-old man who was in the vehicle with two passengers of the same age and another man aged 20.

The officers found the car had been reported stolen in Nicosia on June 14, 2016 and the driver didn’t have insurance or a driving licence and is staying in the Republic of Cyprus illegally.

When the men were searched a small quantity of cannabis was found on the 20-year-old while a search of the car revealed a knife, a cannabis grinder, a Bulgarian passport and two number plates of a car which is no longer in circulation.

Both the 21-year-old driver and the 20-year-old passenger were arrested.

After investigating further police discovered that an arrest warrant was pending against the 20-year in Nicosia since June 5.
