Man detained on suspicion of raping his 12-year-old niece

A 30-year-old man has been detained on suspicion of raping his 12-year-old niece, reports said on Thursday.

The man, who was remanded in custody for seven days, allegedly raped his niece repeatedly last January.

Reports said the girl had not reported the man, but she told a friend who in turn told her mother.

The mother went to police who secured an arrest warrant for the suspect who happened to be abroad at the time.

He was arrested on Tuesday after he returned. The girl was examined by a state pathologist who found signs of intercourse.
