While former US President Barack Obama may have been smarter than other American presidents, Donald Trump is certainly more loutish, Aleida Guevara, daughter of Marxist revolutionary, Che Guevara said on Monday while on a visit to Cyprus.

In an informal chat with journalists in at the Press House in Nicosia, Aleida said this is her second time to the island, where she has been since June 29 at the invitation of the Cyprus Cuban Friendship Association which is celebrating its 25th anniversary on July 4.

Her first visit was in 1997.

Aleida said although her father is long dead, his spirit continues to live on, inspiring thousands of people across the world and she still remembers him, despite being not even seven years old when he was shot dead in Bolivia.

A paediatrician by training, Aleida said she tries as an activist to defend the rights of all people, particularly those slighted by racism and colonialism. She is involved in Operacion Milagro, a programme offering free medical treatment for people with eye problems in 36 countries.

Discussing Cuba’s future, Aleida said Cubans were used to having leaders like Fidel Castro who died last year.

“We have a duty to continue on the path to perfect socialism. The situation is not easy, being excluded from the USA was never really over. Maybe Obama was smarter than other American presidents but Trump behaves in a loutish manner.”

Along with Cuban ambassador to Cyprus, Aramis Fuente, Aleida met with Yeri Mayor Neophytos Papalazarou and municipal councilors later on in the day.
