Papadopoulos makes it to parliament

Giorgos Papadopoulos from the Solidarity Movement

GIORGOS Papadopoulos of the Solidarity Movement who was reinstated as an MP after a parliament decision last week return his seat which he had lost following a supreme court decision, was sworn in on Friday before the House plenum.

Papadopoulos initially took the Limassol seat in the May 2016 parliamentary elections as runner-up after party leader Eleni Theocharous had won but opted to keep her place in the European parliament.

Papadopoulos lost the seat at the end of May following a supreme court ruling on the argument that existing law did not justify passing the seat to the runner-up. He was reinstated after the plenum voted an amendment bill last Friday tabled by House speaker Demetris Syllouris – also a Solidarity member – that would give the seat back to his party. Only Disy deputies voted against the motion.
