A summer dance festival

By Emmelia Georgiou

We are lucky to be living on an island famous for its summer festivals. Festivals which include dance, music, art and films. This year the Summer Dance Festival organised by Nea Kinisi returns for its 14th year. The event will take place in public and private venues in Limassol.

Nea Kinisi was founded in 2004 as a non-profit organisation, and currently represents the majority of professional dancers and choreographers in Cyprus. It supports and connects professional dancers and choreographers while aiming towards a wide-ranging promotion of contemporary dance and of Cypriot artists locally, as well as abroad, through dance creation in various forms.

This year’s edition of the Summer Dance Festival aims to involve audiences in a creative process. With four different categories, the public are invited to talk and get in touch with the artists in unique ways to experience the city of Limassol in a different light.

The four categories include New Work: New works with a maximum duration of 45 minutes, Durational Work: Works with a duration of three to 48 continuous hours, Living on Site: Works where the artist has chosen a space in which to live in for a period of time and Recycle: Works which have been presented in the past and will now be revisited in new spaces.

The choreographers participating this year are Elena Antoniou, Julia Brendle, Evie Demetriou, Roula Kleovoulou, Milena Ugren Koulas, Evi Panayiotou, Lia Haraki and Elena Christodoulidou.
