Man dead in sea off Mackenzie beach

A 36-year-old Romanian man was found on Sunday evening floating in the sea off Mackenzie beach in Larnaca.

According to police, at around 8pm they received information that an unconscious man had been spotted in the area.

Men from the CID went to the scene where they found the Romanian man on the beach. He was identified by his wife.

She told the police they had arrived at the beach at around 6.30pm and an hour and a half later she went to a nearby kiosk to buy something.

Her husband went into the sea and a short time later he was seen floating unconscious.

The body was taken to Larnaca general hospital where a post mortem is expected to be carried out on Monday.
