Sports club bombed in Linopetra

A bomb blast occurred Tuesday morning at the entrance of a sports club in Limassol. No one was injured in the explosion.

The high-power device was placed at the entrance to the sports club Anagennisi Germasogeia located on Kolonaki Street in Linopetra.

The explosion, at 6:20am caused serious damage to the entrance and the inside of the premises, as well as causing a small fire, which was put out by the fire service.

In the explosion, fragments of glass windows were blasted on to the road but there was no traffic, nor any pedestrians at that hour.

The sports facility was only recently opened, on July 28.

Professional rivalries are believed to be behind the bomb explosion.
