President views Perseid meteor shower from Troodos

President Nicos Anastasiades visited the Troodos mountains late Saturday to view the Perseid Meteor Shower.

He was joined by his spouse Andri, his children and his grandchildren.

In brief statements he recalled that the Cabinet recently decided to contribute to the foundation of a school where students could study astronomy. He said that the school would be established in cooperation and the financial assistance of the ministry of education.

‘’I would like to see children and young people get interested in all these phenomena nature offers and get involved,’’ he said.

He said that he has a special bond with Troodos because he spent his childhood there and added that the region had potential for further development. He also expressed his hope that the Troodos Observatory will be set up soon and he will be able to place the foundation stone.
