Bar review: Sandy Beach, Paphos

If you’re looking for a great little beach bar with friendly service in Paphos, then a visit to Sandy Beach in Chlorakas is a must. Found down a dirt track off the main Chlorakas-Lemba coastal road, the beach is a haven for sun worshippers and a top spot to enjoy a sundowner with friends.

Situated in a secluded bay popular with surfers, this beach bar is often overlooked but is a hidden gem. The bar first opened in 2008 and facilities on offer mean that a daytime visit often leads onto a sunset drink.

Sign posts from the main road indicate where to turn and the track leads to ample parking. The bar has a slightly weather-beaten appearance which is endearing, and the vibe is always positive and welcoming.
Generally the crowd here is under 45s, but families and all sorts of people frequent this beach bar, which is also hugely popular with locals.

Every summer, a number of beach parties are organised here and this year is no exception. Regular updates are posted on the bar’s Facebook page.

Drinks, which include alcoholic and soft drinks, as well as summer favourites like frappes, are served from a wooden style beach hut. The sand is golden and the waters are clear. However, this bay is prone to large waves and rip currents, so swimmers should be aware. There is a life guard on duty during designated hours, and a volley ball court and shower and toilet facilities are also available.

Yoga and other fitness events are often held here during the cooler hours and beds and umbrellas are available to hire for those wanting to soak up the sun in comfort.

A wooden walkway provides a pathway through the hot golden sand, and the view of an open expanse of the sea glittering in the sun, is breath-taking.

This bar has a friendly atmosphere, drinks are well priced and the mojitos delicious. They are open daily from 10am to 9pm during the summer season. There is plenty of seating available in the shade of the bar, and ample space on the beach to place towels and cool boxes.

A visit here is a real taste of Cyprus summer.
