Bar Review: Sousami, Limassol

The standard bar in Limassol aims to be elegant and effortlessly chic offering intricate cocktails. Let’s get this straight off the bat – Sousami in Limassol’s old town is nothing like that, not in a negative way but in the most positive way possible.

It’s located in a ‘typical’ traditional Cypriot house and this means that it has a wonderful garden right at the back of the bar. It is the highlight of the place. The beautiful garden and main seating area is packed with greenery and banishes the hustle and bustle of the city, offering a more slowed down, serene atmosphere without the customer even realising it. It has this underground, almost grungy feel that makes every customer feel at home. It has an honest atmosphere and the behaviour of the customers reflect exactly that. Everyone is one of the same and they all come together to enjoy the comings and goings of the place. In short, it has a distinct sense of camaraderie.

Needless to say, Sousami is not known for its groundbreaking cocktails. As far as drinks are concerned, the most basic offering of drinks is to be expected. The main draw of Sousami is its supreme musical offering that can be washed down with a cold drink, making it a great bar experience. The place frequently holds a different variety of music events, ranging from jazz, to reggae, to electro – something for every taste – and it gives the place an undeniable appeal.

The combination of music, the unassuming but relaxing garden setting, the laid-back seating and the simple drinks are all a perfect combination to an effortless night out in the heart of Limassol, where sometimes the overdone may be overwhelming as well.

Sousami is a place for everyone – there is no ‘minimum age’ as the customers’ ages vary and everyone feels comfortable and welcomed. It is a much needed and, most importantly, an affordable venue that everyone can enjoy whether it is an early afternoon, when the bar is much quieter, or at night, when it buzzes with customers and music.
