Daredevil car thief caught after balcony fall

A man was caught after he stole a car, caused an accident and hurt himself trying to escape while jumping from the balcony of a hotel in Paphos late on Friday.

The 20-year-old was driving a stolen car on a busy road when he collided with a car driven by a 32-year-old woman who was injured in the accident.

When police arrived at the scene, the driver who caused the crash fled on foot to a nearby hotel, where he jumped from a balcony in an attempt to avoid being arrested.

He was injured by the fall and both persons were taken to Paphos general hospital where they are expected to be treated and released.

The vehicle the 20-year-old was driving was reported stolen from a car rental shop in the morning.  He has been involved in similar offences in the past.
