Remand renewed for man wanted for fraud in Russia

Paphos District Court

The renewal of the remand of a 38-year-old Russian man wanted by the Russian authorities for fraud, conspiracy, theft and money-laundering in 2010 was ordered by the Paphos district court on Tuesday.

The man, who had been arrested in Tala, Paphos, will remain in custody until September 6 pending a review of the extradition request submitted by the Russian authorities.

In earlier hearings the 38-year-old was alleged to have defrauded 23 property buyers out of a total 192,750 US dollars, promising to build flats for them to buy.

To date, the court heard, the man has taken no action toward building the flats.
