Nearly 260 drivers booked in day-long campaign

A motorcyclist was caught driving more than twice the speed limit during a day-long campaign by the special motorcycle squad of Limassol police on Tuesday in which 259 people were booked.

The man was driving at 232 km/h on a road where the limit is 100 km/h.

During the campaign which lasted from 8am to 5pm police officers also booked the driver of a car who twice ignored a red traffic light.

Another person, who was driving without a licence and insurance, was arrested as a warrant for criminal offences was pending against him.

A young person was caught driving a large motorbike without a driver’s licence, insurance, protective helmet or number plates.

All in all, 259 persons were booked for traffic offences, 78 of whom were caught skipping a red light while 82 were caught using a mobile phone while driving.
