Pensioner dies after being hit by car

A pensioner died of his injuries early on Monday morning after he was injured in a traffic accident on Sunday.

Vassilis Stylianou, 76, died after he was hit by a car in Germasogeia as he was trying to cross the street in the tourist area of Limassol at around 9am.

He was taken to Limassol general hospital and treated in the intensive care unit but died at 2am Monday.

The 19-year-old driver does not have either a driving licence or insurance.

Both he and his passenger, 20, were arrested after the passenger made false statements about the accident.

The car belongs to the 20-year-old woman who is also accused of letting him drive without a licence and insurance.

They were being detained while police investigate the cause of the accident.
