Shots fired in drugs chase

Police on Monday night fired shots in a bid to stop a car with two passengers suspected of carrying drugs on Tseri Avenue in Nicosia.

Reports said drug squad officers had tried to stop a vehicle for inspection at around 8.30pm but its driver accelerated and tried to escape.

Officers gave chase, firing shots at the vehicle in the process. Reports said they managed to arrest one suspect while a second one fled the scene and was being sought.

Officers found a quantity of drugs in the car, thought to be cannabis.
