It has been just over a year since iconic singer Anna Vissi has been home to sing. On Tuesday the wait will be over and the capital will once again welcome the singer who has been making it big in Greece for over 40 years.
But this is not just any rocking performance, it is one in which the singer will be performing to support the Sophia Foundation for Children. This single performance is part of the programme I Cook and I Offer, which operates in 16 nursery and primary schools all over the island to make sure that the children who attend these schools enjoy freshly cooked food.
It is clear that although Vissi will be 60 in December she is still a very popular celebrity. Her latest appearance as a judge on the Greek musical talent show Star Academy is testimony to that.
But being a judge and a singer are not the only skills she can put on her resume. She starred in the first Greek rock opera Daimones (Demons) in 1991 and also presented her own variety show in 1994. She also played herself in the 2011 rockumentary Anna Vissi: Oso Eho Foni.
Live performance by the Greek singer. September 12. Makarios III Amphitheatre. 8.30pm. €20/25. Tel: 22-314507
