Seat belt use focus of police campaign

During the past five years, 62.6 per cent of people killed in road deaths were not wearing wear seat belts, the police said on Monday launching a campaign to ensure people are using them and car seats.

Wearing a seat belt is the most effective road safety measure, police stressed launching the fifth campaign to check the use of seat belts and child seats in cars.

The campaign, which is part of a European-wide police action, will last until September 17.

It aims to raise awareness about the dangers of omitting to comply with the regulations.
