13-year-old cyclist dies in traffic accident

A 63-year-old man has been arrested after a 13-year-old boy was killed on Wednesday evening when he was knocked off his bike.

According to a police announcement Damianos Pachy from Anayia was killed in the accident that happened at around 6.30pm on the Episkopio-Arediou road.

The car was driven by a 63-year-old from Arediou, who at some point and in circumstances still being looked into crashed into the cyclist, who was ahead of him.

As a result of the crash the boy was seriously injured and was taken by ambulance to the Nicosia General Hospital where his death was certified.

The 63-year-old was given an alcotest which proved negative, while an arrest warrant was issued against him. He was arrested and kept in police custody.
