Buffer zone fire brought under control

A fire that broke out in the buffer zone on Wednesday evening had been brought under control the fire service said on Thursday.

The fire service received a call at 9.50 on Wednesday night that a fire had broken out in the buffer zone near Potamia which was burning weeds and wild plants. It was brought under control about an hour later.

The fire broke out in the north and a fire engine from the occupied areas helped one from the fire station in Acropolis extinguish the blaze.

While the firemen were inside the buffer zone they were accompanied by members of the United Nations.

The fire burned an area of two hectares in the buffer zone and an unknown area in the north.
