Number of job vacancies drops 20% in Q2

The number of vacancies decreased in the second quarter 20 per cent compared to the respective quarter of 2016 and -also compared to the first quarter- to 2,708 mainly on significantly fewer opportunities in the hospitality sector, the statistical service said.

The number of vacant jobs at hotels and restaurants dropped in the second quarter an annual 61 per cent to 485, while open positions in the area of professional, scientific and technical activities and retail trade and wholesale fell 50 per cent and 20 per cent to 234 and 425 respectively, Cystat said in a statement on its website on Wednesday.

The general drop was partly offset by an increase in vacancies mainly in the area of finance and insurance, which quintupled to 248 in the second quarter compared to April to June last year, Cystat said.
