Lights and lots of action

For three performances next week, The Image Theatre group from Prague will mesmerise audiences of all ages with luminescent lights, visual effects and dance performances that seem to be illusions.

In the framework of the Kypria International Festival, The Best of Images will be presented in the Evis Gabrielides Auditorium in Nicosia on Friday at 6.30pm and on Saturday at 6.30pm and 8.30pm, before moving on to Limassol where darkness has never looked so bright before, at the Pattihio Municipal Theatre.

Image Theatre will blend black theatre, pantomime and modern dance based on the distinguished Czech tradition in this genre. The Best of Image performance will showcase a selection of Image Theatre’s past and current work, presenting the best dance and magic compositions and the most successful comic sketches with an original approach to the principles of black theatre – a theatrical performance style which uses black light illusion.

Mystification, precise execution of visual tricks, playful authors, compelling performances by actors and dancers, the desire to have fun and entertain the viewer along with humour and lots of playfulness is all aimed at giving a mystifying live theatre for a live audience.

Image Theatre has been running for 27-years, and has performed more than 8,000 shows to almost two million spectators all over the world. During this time it has became an important part of Prague culture. The creative work of Image Theatre added to the development of the genre, taking it from the original simple form of black theatre to a more contemporary style. The ensemble – which has developed its own style – brilliantly uses the technique of black theatre combined with elements of modern dance, original costumes, mime and non-verbal theatre, as well as contact with the audience.
