Education official mocked in north over ‘jetlag’ comment

Turkish Cypriot “minister of education” Dr. Ozdemir Berova has been the subject of online mockery after stating that using winter time after October “causes jetlag in humans.”

Following Yenidüzen’s report on Saturday, many Turkish Cypriots took to social media to troll the official.

One user wrote, “Will I be jetlagged if I travel from Nicosia to Famagusta?” while another commented, “I was going to visit you but I was scared of getting jetlagged while coming to your house.”

Berova held a meeting last Friday where he said the school year will start without problems. At the end of the conference, he was asked about his views on the authorities’ decision not to implement winter time once again this year.

Berova answered, “As a doctor, (I say) time change causes jetlag in humans. It is important for health that working people leave the workplace in daylight.”

This is not the first time Berova raised eyebrows besides questions.

Last week, he told daily Haberal Kıbrıslı newspaper that the Turkish Cypriot education system has been in harmony with the education system of Republic of Turkey since 1571, apparently forgetting that modern Turkey was established in 1923.
