The European Capital of Culture Pafos2017 has a real treat up its sleeve for music lovers on Sunday when internationally acclaimed Russian pianist Vladimir Ovchinnikov will take to the stage.
Ovhinnikov, who is the only pianist ever to win the top prizes at both the International Tchaikovsky Competition in Moscow and the Leeds International Pianoforte Competition, will perform some of the greatest masterpieces of the Russian composers Piotr Tchaikovsky and Sergey Rachmaninov.
The pianist, a graduate of the Moscow Conservatory, is resident professor of piano at the Conservatory and guest professor of piano at Sakuyo University in Japan. He has served as a chairman and a member of the jury at the International Tchaikovsky Competition, the International Tchaikovsky Competition for Young Musicians, the International Russian Rotary Children Music Competition and many others. He has collaborated with famous conductors such as Vladimir Ashkenazy, Matthias Barnert, James Conlon, and Alexander Dmitriev. He also appears regularly with leading Russian orchestras like the Moscow Philharmonic, the Moscow Radio Symphony and the St Petersburg Philharmonic.
The musical event is considered to be a unique opportunity to showcase Russian culture as part of the programme of the European Capital of Culture Pafos2017. The event is in collaboration with the Russian Embassy.
