Men arrested for attempted murder (Updated)

Two men were remanded for eight days on Friday by Larnaca district court in connection with an incident of attempted murder the previous night in Oroklini.
According to the lead investigator, a 46-year-old man from Lakatamia had arranged to meet with an acquaintance of his, a 45-year-old man, at 10pm on Thursday night in Oroklini.
The victim’s account of events was that when he got there, he found that in addition to the 45-year-old there were others in two cars.
Suspecting he had been set up, the man tried to flee the scene.
However, the 45-year-old got out of his car and fired a sawn-off hunting rifle twice toward him at close range.
The pellets struck the 46-year-old on the shoulder.
Fearing that the shooter might follow him, he drove to the Limassol general hospital, instead of the one in Larnaca, where he was admitted for treatment at around 11:30pm Thursday night.
The court heard that at 6:30am Friday police spotted near the scene of the shooting a 31-year-old woman who had reported being raped the previous day.
She was found in possession of two hunting-rifle cartridges, which she said had been given to her by a person she described.
The two men arrested and thereafter remanded have denied any involvement in the case.
