Over 75 private vets across Cyprus are taking part in the government’s stray cat and dog neutering programme, the Animal Party said on Wednesday.
In a statement hailing the programme which Cabinet approved in August this year, with a €75,000 budget, the party said already municipalities, local authorities and NGOs were on board and participating in the programme.
Calling on more of those authorities to get involved, the party said “it is important that over 75 private vets from across Cyprus have stated their participation.”
“We all know the serious problem of the increasing population of cats and dogs. This is why we should all cooperate so this programme is successful.”
Some animal welfare groups have put Cyprus’ cat population as high as 1.5 million.
