This weekend The European Capital of Culture Pafos2017 is set to fill us with music, theatre and art.
Tomorrow will bring on the music with the performance of works created by six Cypriot composers. The event, at the Markideio Theatre at 8.30pm, will take place after the organisers of the Pafos2017 events and the Centre of Cypriot Composers invited local composers to produce musical works drawing on the Open Air Factory and its thematic lines – including the motto Linking Continents – Bridging Culture – with the aim of producing original works which will always be linked with the voyage of the European Capital of Culture Pafos2017.
Sunday is the day for theatre and art. The Markideio Theatre will once again be the place for stories to be told at 3pm with a performance of Petros’ War. Alki Zei’s masterpiece for both children and adults, will take us back to 1940, when WWII broke out in Athens. Under these new circumstances, Petros goes on a long walk, a walk filled with adventures, feelings, experiences and knowledge that will enrich his young soul and will make him love his country.
In the evening, the capital of culture turns to Ibrahim’s Khan and the exhibition Ways to Meet Again, which focuses on what constitutes boundaries, borders and territories and how these are expanded or overcome. Through the opening up of their own memories, the artists – who are alumni and graduate students of the Fine Arts postgraduate programme of Frederic University – revisit the concept of identity and examine the possibilities of conciliation between local and international means. The works they created on this theme document, classify and record mechanisms of re-negotiation.
