Fire destroys Larnaca nightclub

A fire which was likely caused by arson badly damaged a night club in Larnaca early on Friday morning.

Police were alerted to a fire at the Lagoon club in the Makenzie area at 3.30am.

Firefighters rushed to the scene and with two fire trucks the fire was brought under control by 4.20am before it could spread to the first floor.

The fire caused extensive damage to the ground floor of the building and its equipment.

Preliminary investigations indicate the cause of the fire was arson. It is not yet known if the club is insured.

The scene is guarded by police officers who with the help of the electromechanical services will try to determine the exact causes of the blaze later in the day.
