A fire in a lorry caused the closure of the Limassol-to-Nicosia motorway near Kofinou on Saturday morning for about half an hour, a police report said.

According to the report, the fire broke out shortly after 8am and was promptly responded to by police and the fire service.

Until the fire was safely put out, however, police had to close all three lanes heading to Nicosia.

No injuries were reported as a result of the fire.

In a statement, police announced that, although the motorway was now clear, drivers should exercise extreme caution and maintain a safe distance from vehicles ahead.
