Man arrested for unexplained cash at airport

A 38-year-old man from Limassol was arrested at Larnaca airport on Friday night for the illegal possession of almost €100,000 in cash, a police report said.

According to the report, the Greek Cypriot man arrived at Larnaca airport at around 8pm on Friday to catch a flight to Amsterdam.

During customs inspection, officers discovered the sum of €98,660 in cash in his luggage.

The 38-year-old was arrested for illegal possession of property, as police remained unconvinced by the claims he made regarding the origin of the sum.

The cash was seized by airport customs and the man was detained.

Larnaca CID continue to investigate.
