The Nicosia municipal council headed by mayor Constantinos Yiorkadjis delivered 523 Christmas packages on Wednesday for needy children of primary schools.

The packages, which also include shopping vouchers worth €20,920 in total, were delivered during a ceremony to the headmasters of the schools, who will, in their turn, deliver them to the children and their families. The vouchers were jointly donated by Athienitis supermarket and the municipality.

The pupils were also invited to a show to watch the children’s play ‘Meet at the ark at eight’ and see the percussion group ‘Batukinio’ perform.

“The love packages are a proof that there is interest, awareness and humanity towards the problems that our society faces, which, unfortunately, directly or indirectly affect children,” Yiorkadjis said.

The mayor thanked Athienitis supermarket and the artists’ branch of Peo union for offering the vouchers and the children’s show.
