Leaders invited to bicommunal event

Officials from the Committee for Missing Persons searching for remains

President Nicos Anastasiades and Turkish Cypriot leader Mustafa Akinci have been invited by the Slovak embassy to attend a bicommunal event this week, the Cyprus News Agency reported on Monday.

The Slovak-hosted event will take place at the Ledra Palace hotel in the buffer zone on Wednesday when members of the Committee on Missing Persons Cyprus (CMP) will present their work.

The island’s religious leaders, officials of Unficyp, members of the diplomatic community and political party representatives from both sides of the divide have also been invited.

If both leaders attend, it would their first meeting following the farewell reception hosted last August by Espen Barth Eide, the UN secretary-general’s former special adviser on Cyprus.
