Greek President expresses support for Cyprus in wake of Turkish provocations

Greek President Prokopis Pavlopoulos has expressed Greece’s full support to Cyprus, during a meeting in Athens with Foreign Minister Nicos Christodoulides.

Pavlopoulos reiterated that Turkey’s provocative stance towards the Republic of Cyprus also constituted provocations against the EU.
The Greek President noted that Turkey was bound by the law of the sea and pointed out that Ankara knew that any violation of this law was a violation of international law.

He also said that he agreed with the joint decision between the ministers of foreign affairs of Greece and Cyprus to raise the issue of the violation of the rights of the Republic at all EU bodies.

Christodoulides said the government’s main aim was to solve the Cyprus problem and added that Cyprus would not be distracted by Turkish actions.

He added that he had agreed with his Greek counterpart, Nikos Kotzias to raise the issue of the violation of the rights of the Republic in Brussels.

He also expressed satisfaction that Turkey’s provocations would be on the agenda of the European Council in March.
