Reckless driver jailed for 18 months

A 56-year-old man was sentenced on Monday to 18 months in prison by the Paphos district court after being found guilty of causing a fatal road accident in 2015 that claimed the life of a 47-year-old man from Limassol.

The man was found guilty of causing death due to reckless behaviour.

The accident occurred in August 2015 when the lorry driven by the 56-year-old on the Limassol to Paphos motorway crashed into the back of a car with two passengers aged, 47 and 48, which was parked in the road shoulder. Both cars caught fire from the collision.

After the fire service put out the blaze, 47-year-old Polykarpos Vlachos was found dead in the car, while the  48-year-old driver was taken to hospital.
