Tourism minister to attend Berlin travel fair

Energy Minister Yiorgos Lakkotrypis

Energy, Commerce, Industry and Tourism Minister Yiorgos Lakkotrypis departs on Tuesday for Berlin, where he will lead the Cyprus delegation participating in the ITB International Tourism Exhibition 2018.

Over the course of Wednesday and Thursday, Lakkotrypis will meet representatives of major airlines, as well as Germany’s main tour operators to discuss the increase in schedules and available air routes to Cyprus for summer 2018.

In addition, he is scheduled to provide a number of TV and print media interviews on the various developments in the tourism sector in Cyprus before returning to the island on Friday.

Around 189,000 German tourists visited Cyprus in 2017, up over 50 per cent on 2016. On Monday the Turkish Cypriot side also announced it would be participating in the ITB, saying they hoped to boost numbers this year, having attracted over 50,000 German tourists in 2017.
