A Larnaca resident was caught by police on Wednesday evening trying to smuggle 160 firecrackers from the north through the mixed village of Pyla.

Police said they stopped the car driven by a 24-year-old man at around 10pm.

When they searched the vehicle they found four boxes containing 40 firecrackers each.

The suspect was charged and is expected to appear in court at a later stage.
