March for Akamas (VIDEO)

On April 15, a demonstration organised by the ‘Save Akamas / Save Cyprus’ movement took place on the streets of Nicosia.

The protest (which ended in a concert, featuring a number of well-known bands) called for the protection of the Akamas peninsula and more broadly for all projects situated near or within ‘Natura 2000’ areas to be properly assessed, as provided by EU law. It also called for Conservation and Management Orders to be issued for these areas.

We joined the approximately 500 people taking part in the march, and spoke to a few of them.
