Woman 25, dies after shelves topple over at restaurant storeroom

A 25-year-old female employee at a restaurant in Nicosia was killed when some shelves fell on her in a storeroom on Saturday.

According to police, the accident happened around 1pm when Odyssea Iacovou went to fetch something from the storeroom at her workplace in Strovolos.

The metal shelves were holding drinks and water containers and one toppled over.

First aid was given at the scene but Iacovou did not respond. Her death was confirmed at Nicosia General Hospital.

A state pathologist ruled out foul play.

According to reports, the young woman had injuries to her neck and died instantly.
