Customs seize knock-off trainers and cigarettes

Knock-offs worth more than €5,000 and 120 packets of cigarettes were seized by customs this week, it was announced on Tuesday.

Specifically, over the weekend, a car crossing the Ayios Dhometios checkpoint was found to be carrying two kilos of tobacco as well as 120 packets of cigarettes.

Customs duty on the products amounted to €440. The man was arrested but was released upon paying a €700 fine.

On Monday, customs officers raided a warehouse in a Nicosia village, finding 553 sports shoes which were imitations, worth €5,500.

The owner handed over the items to the customs department which is investigating the case.
