Rizokarpaso celebrated on Saturday the first wedding taking place in the village in 27 years.
The couple, Christos Achilleos from Rizokarpaso and Christina Chalkiti from Rhodes, tied the knot at the church of Ayios Synesios on Saturday afternoon. The ceremony was carried out by Father Zacharias, the only priest who lives in Rizokarpaso.
The bride arrived at the church on foot escorted by violin and lute players. The ceremony attended among others, the head of Disy, Averof Neophytou, family and friends of the couple.
The wedding party took place in ‘Yiannakis’ hall in the nearby Ayios Therissos.
Today some 410 Greek Cypriots and Maronites live in the Karpasia peninsula.
