The basketball match that was held in the indoor  stadium Keravnos in Strovolos. It was aimed at raising funds for the construction of an A&E department at the Makarios children’s hospital in the capital. This was the third year in the row the charity event has been held. It was organised by the Cyprus Basketball Federation and the charity organisation set up by footballers, ‘Goal in Life’.

The cabinet team included Government Spokesman Prodromos Prodromou, Foreign Minister, Nicos Christodoulides, and members of the presidential guard. The team led by Patsalides of the Louis Night Show on Alpha Cyprus TV won the match 57-55.

Anastasiades said that the state was always a supporter of such causes, adding that the government would also contribute significantly to the creation of  the new clinic.

“We strive to reinforce the efforts of ‘Goal in Life’, an initiative of excellent footballers, as well as Louis’ efforts to make a contribution from the private sector for quality medical services,” Anastasiades said.

Prodromou said that the participation of the government aimed at sending out the message that this was a noble cause.

Christodoulides said that “this initiative has been launched three years ago and is very important, because there must be cooperation between the government and civil society”.

The government team last year won last year the match against Patsalides’ team as part of anti-cancer fundraising efforts.
