Student hits teacher during exam

A student is alleged to have hit a teacher during exams, the spokesman of the teacher’s union Oelmek Yiannos Socratous said on Tuesday afternoon.

Speaking on Antenna TV’s lunchtime programme, Socratous said the incident occurred during an exam when the teacher requested the student to sit in his assigned seat. The student refused to do so and reportedly swore and hit the teacher. The student was then sent to the Assistant Principal’s office, where he reportedly also swore at her.

“We need the support of the community, the authorities. It’s not right that all these things happen, while we whistle nonchalantly,” he said.

According to Michalis Loizides, the Larnaca regional director of the education ministry, the student has a troubled history. Loizides added that the ministry and the school are both dealing with the incident.
