The fire service had to rescue two people in Dherynia early on Saturday after a blaze broke out in their house apparently from a household appliance.
Firefighters got the call some 30 minutes after midnight that a fire had broken out at a two-storey residence located in a housing block.
The blaze was raging on the ground floor, trapping four people – two girls aged 18, and two 20-year-old men on the first floor.
Two of them were rescued by neighbours while the other two were pulled out of a window in the first floor.
None of the group was injured.
Firefighters brought the blaze under control shortly before 1am after it caused extensive damage to the house.
Investigators ruled out foul play as the cause, as initial indications pointed out to a faulty appliance as being the culprit.
