Drivers warned of heavy rain hazards

Police on Wednesday afternoon urged motorists to be alert as the heavy rainfall and hail caused dangerous driving conditions in several areas.

Landslides and rock slides took place in the Gourri-Lazanias-Macheras road as well in those between Kambos-Kykkos, Kykkos-Pedoulas, Ayios Demetrios -Lemythou, Kannavia-Spilia, and Pedoulas-Moutoullas.

Ayios Georgios street in Meniko, in the Nicosia district, was closed to the traffic due to river overflow.

In the Paphos district, there was heavy rain in the areas of Polemi, Psathi, Simou, Yiolou, Kannaviou, Panayia and Stroumbi.

The bridge of Tzielefos to Pera Vasa and Ais Nikolas is closed due to the river overflow.

Police urged drivers to be especially careful, drive at low speed, keep their car lights on and keep a safe distance from other vehicles.
